Fear

What is Fear?
Emotions play an important part in our daily lives. Fear is one such emotion that is pre-programmed into all animals and people as an instinctual response to potential danger.
As for what is fear biologically speaking, when a person experiences fear, certain areas in their brain such as the amygdala and the hypothalamus are immediately activated and appear to control the first physical response to fear. Chemicals such as adrenaline and the stress hormone cortisol are released into the blood stream causing certain physical reactions such as:
Rapid heart rate
Increased blood pressure
Tightening of muscles
Sharpened or redirected senses
Dilation of the pupils (to let in more light)
Increased sweating

Why Do People Get Married?

Why do people get married?
While some people are together for years and never feel a need to make their commitment to each other legal, many others elect to formally pledge their love and enter a binding partnership.
Reasons to get married ????????
Commitment
For many, marriage is appealing because of the commitment that a long partnership requires.

Religion
Many people marry because of their religion. While sexual intercourse before marriage is no longer uncommon, even among those who are religious, marriage before God adds sanctity to wedding vows that further can further solidify the commitment between the two spouses.

Children
Some marry in order to have children.

Companionship
Humans are social animals who need other people in their lives. While being alone from time to time can be nice, many people want the companionship that comes with marriage. People like to have solid friends in their lives.

Love
There is also, of course, love. The magic of love is the basis of a marriage.

This is why people get married ?????????

Ferrari F10 - revised front wing

For the first time this season, Ferrari have introduced a double-flap solution on their front wing at Silverstone to increase downforce. The previous, single-flap solution can be seen in the top drawing and the new version in the bottom drawing. Of particular interest is the more sophisticated shape of the profiles, which rise up in the middle section of the wing (see red arrows in bottom drawing).

Performing Tyre changes in 3 seconds

As the cars completed all the testing that is allowed, the crew on track and at the factory have been practicing pitstops without refuelling the car. While previously the tyre changers were not the critical path of a pitstop procedure due to the longer refuelling time, they certainly will be now.
Williams have stated a 3.5s stop will be "decent", but rumours from Red Bull claims pitstops of under 3 seconds. To optimise this process, most of the experienced teams have designed special wheel nuts that can unlock the wheel safety fastener and the wheel at one time. Ferrari did it by adding two clips on each side of the nut.

2 ) 1970 Batch meet :
This is to inform that 1970 Batch of KREC (NITK today) with all the 5 branches, has planned to meet for the first time, since they left the college in 1970. This program is being organized in Beach Resort near Mangalore known as "SUMMER SANDS". Our batch mate Mr Loy Albuquerque, 1970 Civil, is owner of this resort. He has been continuously requesting this batch alumni to come to his place and enjoy the hospitality. On this occasion, we intend to meet with our wives . The dates are 4th and 5th September 2010. ( time to be spent full 2 days in the resort and around). Hence it is expected people to arrive on 3rd (any time during the day) at the resort and leave either on 6th morning or 5th evening, depending on the transport conveyance one chooses. During this 2 day period, it is intended that we visit the Almamater. For some of the people who are visiting the campus first time since 1970, it shall be really thrilling & nostalgic experience. We plan to have a visit the college from Ulla, preferably on 4th, in a manner that we can at least greet the present Director, Dr Sandeep Sancheti.
Saturday is a holiday for the college.
However, if he is in town, he shall be happy to meet us. We suggest that we travel together from Ullal and gather in a class room. Later, we go round the campus and also visit Sadashiva temple and the beach. This is for information. I am requesting all the people to participate, make this event a memorable one. Extra curricular activities for both men and women can be planned and I request some people to take the lead in organizing the same for both the evenings. Look forward to hear from all, apart from spreading this message to the batch mates, to whom the communication might not have gone.
Thanks and regards

Why we laugh and cry

Why we laugh and cry

As humans we laugh and cry, but seldom do we question how, or why. There are many processes involved in both responses. Cultures around the world allow both crying and laughing as acceptable behaviors. With crying, as well as laughter, the body goes through physical or chemical changes. Crying and laughter are beneficial to us both emotionally and physically. We must have them to function in the world.
Crying is a more complicated process than one would at first imagine. First of all, there are really three different types of tears. Basal tears keep our eyes lubricated constantly. Reflex tears are produced when our eyes get irritated, like with onions or when something gets into our eyes. The third kind of tear is produced when the body reacts emotionally to something. Each type of tear contains different amounts of chemical proteins and hormones. Scientists have discovered that the emotional tears contain higher levels of manganese and the hormone prolactin, and this contributes in a reduction of both of these in the body; thus helping to keep depression away. Many people have found that crying actually calms them after being upset, and this is in part due to the chemicals and hormones that are released in the tears.
How then actually do we cry? The psychic tears (or emotional tears) require an emotional response, or trigger to be activated. This response can be caused by an outside source, either pain or loss of love, etc., or from an inside source (self-realization of one's life and others). When emotions affect us, the nervous system stimulates the cranial nerve, in the brain and this sends signals to the neurotransmitters to the tear glands. Thus, we cry .The largest tear gland, the lacrimal gland produces the tears of emotion and reflex. Many believe that the body, in times of emotional stress, depends on this gland to release excess amounts of chemicals and hormones, returning it to a stable state.

As well as with crying, laughter is also acceptable culturally for a variety of reasons. Often, just because of where a person lives, something may be funny and make them laugh. It may not be funny anywhere else in the world. Also, their culture and community may dictate what is appropriate to laugh at and what is not. People have often said, "Laughter is the best medicine," and they may not be too far from the truth. When we laugh, the body makes facial gestures and sounds. The body relaxes during laughter. The diaphragm, abdominal, respiratory, facial, leg and back muscles all get a workout. Scientists have found that laughing one hundred times is equal to a ten-minute workout on a rowing machine, or fifteen minutes on an exercise bike. Laughter helps promote healing in the body by lowering blood pressure and increasing blood flow. When we laugh, the production of T -cells that destroy tumors and viruses increase, and more Gamma interferon (which is a disease fighting protein) is released. Laughter has been found to reduce the amount of stress hormones and help us cope with our lives better. When others laugh, sometimes the laughter can be contagious. Everyone around them starts to laugh. Some people, when stressed or upset, go to a funny movie or a comedy club hoping to laugh all of their negative emotions away.
There is a special name for the physiological study of laughter. It is called Gelotology. Scientists have discovered that within four- tenths of a second of seeing something humorous, an electrical wave moved through the cerebral cortex of the brain. If the wave took a negative charge, there was laughter. Many areas of the brain are involved in making us laugh. The emotional, the intellectual, and the sensory processing parts of our brain all playa role in stimulating the motor sections of our brain to physically make us laugh.

The US economy could be slowing again

US stocks declined on Friday after disappointing reports on jobs and factory orders, capping a dismal week in which the Dow lost 4.5%. Employers slashed 125,000 jobs from non-farm payrolls last month, about 10,000 more than expected. The unemployment rate, which is based on a household survey, actually slipped to 9.5%. It was the first decline in payrolls in six months.
