NITK Surathkal Since its birth as the Karnataka Regional Engineering College in 1960, the institute has become one of the premier institutes of the country engaged in imparting quality technical education and supporting research and development programs. The National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007 was enacted by the Parliament of India to declare India’s National Institutes of Technology as Institutes of National Importance.
